Week in Review 5/1-5/5

Miss Crowley and Miss Johnson here! We are Ms. Baker and Ms. Fisher’s student teachers this semester. This week was our classroom takeover week and we were in charge of running the class for this last week. It’s been a lot of work and we’ve been learning a lot.

This week:

• We reviewed our fraction skills and took a final fractions concept quiz.
• We learned about economics and what it means to budget and earn a profit. Our fifth graders became shopkeepers and competed for the business of our fourth graders who became pioneers buying supplies for the journey along the Oregon Trail.
• We visited the Marshall garden where our students helped water the plants, repair a leaky water pipe, and plant new asparagus plants.
• We took a walking field trip to Francis Short Pond where the students learned about life at the pond and water chemistry.

Looking Ahead:

• Next week, we will be finishing our novel Thunder Rolling in the Mountains and reviewing measurement and data.
• We will be gardening again Wednesday from 9 AM – 11 AM, wear sunscreen and dress accordingly!

This week's students of the week are.....


Destyni, Alana, and Jude!


Destyni was nominated this week because she is such a hard worker and positive, kind kid. We're so glad to have you!

Alana was nominated for similar reasons. She is a positive kid who is super on top of her work. Way to go!

Jude has been working so hard at school and at home. He's been on task here and studying for quizzes at home. Nice work!

Week in Review 4/24-4/28

Hi there!

We had a great week here in rooms 28 & 30! Here's what went on.

This week:

• We reviewed algebra topics and took a final algebra assessment
• We learned about the Oregon Trail and the California gold rush
• We studied animals of Northern Arizona with Ms. C.
• We learned about Flagstaff's watershed from the San Francisco peaks to the rio de flag
• We created a model of wetlands to observe the positive effects they have on surrounding environments.

Looking Ahead:

• Next Wednesday, May 3rd, we'll be going on a walking field trip to Francis Short Pond with Ms. C. of Willowbend to continue our watershed study. We we'll be there from about 9:15-11:15
• We'll be in the garden on Tuesday, May 2nd. Dress accordingly!

Makenzie was nominated for helping another student when they were confused about their work.

Addi was nominated for being such a kind podmate who is always willing to share her supplies.

Zach was nominated because he shared his snack with someone who forgot theirs and is a super kind kid!

Way to go, kiddos!

Week in Review 4/17-4/21

Hi there, Fisher Baker families! 

Well we're done with AZ Merit Testing for the year! We are so proud of all of our students' hard work throughout our testing weeks. Also, we owe a huge "thank you!" to the parents who sent in snacks for our kiddos over those two weeks. They were such a huge help, and set us up for success each morning and afternoon. 

Since testing is behind us, this leaves us with time to focus on our Westward Expansion unit, review and assessments for final grades, a couple of field trips (stay tuned), and some time out in the Marshall garden. 

We are excited to wind our year down with some quality learning!

Week In Review 3/20-3/24

Hey there, Fisher Baker families!

We hope you all had a warm and restful spring break Spring Break. Now that we're back, we're in "go mode" as far as preparing for AZ Merit testing. Today, we sent home an orange flyer about testing dates and details. Here's the text from that flyer:

This Week in Academics:

• We planned, wrote, edited, and typed a 5 paragraph essay to prepare for the writing portion of the AZ Merit.
• We learned geoemtery terms like parallel, perpendicular, ray, point, line, etc.
• We classified quadrilaterals.
• We classified triangles.
• 4th graders built electromagnets.
• 5th graders added and subtracted fractions with unlike denominators

Looking Ahead:

• Due to the 2 hour delay, the symphony field trip was cancelled, but has been rescheduled for Monday, April 17.
• Standardized testing season kicks off with the fourth grade science tests this coming Thursday, 3/30.
• Next Friday is Birthday Friday!

Spring Conferences

Hey there! It's parent teacher conference time again. In the spring, we run things a little differently, making a conference optional for some kids.

As of today your child will either be bringing home:
