Week in Review 1/25- 1/29

Hello Fisher Baker Families!

If there's been sneezing, sniffling, and fevering at your house like we've seen here at school, we hope you are on the mend and getting/ staying healthy! With a 5th grade ski trip on the horizon, science fair projects, Connect to School Day, and middle school applications, we're sure you're feeling the bustle as much as we are here. Here's the latest to make sure you've got it all straight.

This week in academics:

  • We learned and practiced order of operations (using PEMDAS)
  • We dipped our toes into algebra with algebraic patterns and rules
  • We finalized plans for your Science Fair Projects
    • We strongly recommend that students complete their experiments this weekend, so they can use next weekend to create their boards.
  • We met with a handful of parents at our Connect to School day aka APTT (Academic Parent Teacher Team.) Thanks for coming and continuing to support what we do here at Marshall!
Looking Ahead:
  • Middle school academy applications are due this Monday, February 1st.
    • Ms. Fisher and I have completed and sent in the teacher recommendation part of your application. You are responsible for making sure the rest of the application gets to the middle school.
  • All ski trip info and money is due back on this Wednesday, February 3rd.
  • Completed Science Fair Projects are due on Wednesday, February 10th.

We hope you all have a restful and enjoyable weekend together. See you next week!

Students of the Week 1/29

Congratulations to Carson and Indigo for being named this week's students of the week! These two ladies have been nominated because both of them have gone out of their way to be helpful to their classmates this week. We are so glad to have students that really care for and look out for others in our class. Thanks, ladies!

Students of the Week 1/15

Congratulations to Otto and Bekah as this week's students of the week! These two have come back from break as wonderful leaders to their classmates. They have been great partners to work with and stayed focused on their jobs as students when many others of us may have been tempted to play instead. Way to go, you two!

Week in Review 1/11-1/15

Well, hello there!

It has been quiet here on the blog due to our crazy massive amounts of snow last week. We are happy to be back at it and into a regular routine. This week we've been hammering out some well researched  and carefully written animal and national park reports. Today we sent home some much anticipated science fair information. Our dates may look a little different than other class's due dates, so be careful to read information carefully and mark your calendars accordingly.  Here's some of what's been going on here this week.

This week in academics:
  • We continued learning different ways to think about and solve division problems
    • See links below for video lessons on some division methods we are learning.
  • We learned how to properly punctuate possessive nouns.
  • We learned how to join words, phrases, and sentences using coordinating conjunctions.
  • We edited, revised, and wrote final copies for research reports.

Looking ahead:
  • Middle school academy applications are due by February 1st. These require teacher recommendations, so please turn those in to us with plenty of time for us to fill those out. Check out this blog post for links to the different applications.
  • Save the Date! Our second Connect to School meeting will be on Friday, January 29th.

Middle School Academy Applications

SO MANY OPTIONS!

Here are a few links to the different academies that MEMS and Sinagua Middle School offer.
  • Each link has an application for that academy on the right side of its homepage for you to print and fill out at home. If students request a specific application, we can also send home a hard copy.
  • All applications  need to be completed and turned into middle schools by February 1st, 2016.
